Getting there and moving about
Both villages are reachable by the modest inter‑island ferry that links the main airports, yet the timing differs: Maio’s service runs less frequently, making early morning departures a practical choice to avoid the midday heat. On Santiago, a short taxi ride from the airport drops you within sight of Calheta de São Miguel, and a network of shared minibuses (aluguers) eases onward travel to the island’s interior.
